Was able to sneak this in after the rain stopped tonight. Weird doing sunset vs sunrise rides.

I typically drive this section on my commute. Was able to ride it as fast.

The activeto program has been fun this year. Hope the lakeshore route by my house ends up being closed tomorrow, my daughter loves riding on the "big road".

Short first ride on the current project, a 1997 Cannondale. Stopped by my grandfather's cabin on the way home. It was built in 1940 and there were no trees on the property at the time. Friends, family and neighbors planted hundreds of White, Red, and Jack Pines, White Oaks, Sugar Maples, Bald Cypress, and Sycamores. Some of the biggest trees in the yard now are squirrel planted Black Walnuts that I mowed around as tiny seedlings when I came back to the farm in 1986. Grandpa started having parties here for returning WWII veterans, usually with a whole hog cooked over an open fire as the main course. These were parties for the whole community, everyone was welcome. The first fireplace was torn down and replaced when the pines grew too close and fire risk became too great. The second fireplace was bigger but there was something lacking in the construction, as the mortar didn't stick to the bricks. The chimney has probably been gone for 30 years, but there were a lot of hogs roasted over it in the 1970s and 1980s. Grandpa loaned the spit and all the hardware for trussing a hog to someone who didn't return it. We would have tried to retrieve it but he couldn't remember who he had given it to.

Whatever photography's version of gardening's black thumb is, I have it in spades!

Great shots folks! Lots of amazing talent here for sure.

Summer in the Mitten

Beautiful day here in west Michigan. Lake Michigan, Muskegon river, a bar/restaurant on the beach, and this little guy I saved from a terrible fate on the bike path. He was sitting right in the middle of the paved path which likely would have had a bad ending.

Finally able to get out for decent rides with no real traffic. It seemingly took forever to get the bike sorted, a base of conditioning n place, and a rack on the car. All good now.

Went out for 40 in the hottest part of the day w some decent wind blowing…..and it was not bad! Low-90s sucks on slower exposed climbs but there was almost zero traffic and I’ll take panting over white-knuckling any day of the week.

Tied a 2021 KOM too on a dirt-road secteur

Must be the Schwalbe 30s I threw on there today.

My black Terraplane won't fit 30s but from the looks of yours we could ride together and exchange bikes with no more than slight seat height adjustments.

Trying to stay off the roads so I hit the MUTs near my house this weekend.

One thing I don’t understand is how it’s ok to to let your horse **** all over the parking lot and not clean it up. I get it on the trail but carry a shovel and clean-up.
