For the first time in like forever, nothing! I have no bike that I'm in the process of building and none that need maintenance. That's very unusual for me. Hmmm, time to start trolling the classifieds for another classic steel beauty LOL!!!
The Fausto Coppi was the last one that I built up and that was completed two weeks ago. |

Well I think I have everything I need to build it up but I've hit a mental road block. Anytime I'm doing something new that is anxiety provoking, I tend to put it off as long as possible..
Therefore, I haven't even attempted to start putting together the campy hydro brakes yet. Just the whole cutting/barb, and bleed process makes me feel meh.. I've bled brakes before on mountain bikes but never had to setup from scratch. I know I'm overthinking it, but I'm just worried that the summer will fly by and I won't have ridden this as much as I wanted to! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Mid 80's Zunow
Well, just out of the workstand.
Replaced the 8 speed DA with 10 speed Red and newer wheels. Kept the 7410 cranks, headset, seatpost and DA stem. Much improved hand feel. Better on the road as well with new wheelset. It won't get skipped as often in the rotation now. |

Fondriest X-Status
I found an original fork for this a while back. The threadless Columbus Carve worked so well, I was hesitant to swap.
Both set ups look pretty good to me. I'll give it a few rides to see how it goes. The steerer will be trimmed a bit if the chrome fork stays. |

I've been very unhappy with my one bike, two wheelsets approach on my gravel bike, so I've been shopping around for a decent road bike at a decent price. I was coming up dry, so I took some spare parts I had laying around and started converting my commuter that I don't ride to a road bike, I posted the "commuter" build in the dad bike thread:
Anyways, I got to here and realized that the bike wasn't designed for 53/39 chainrings because the front derailleur clamp interferes with the bottle cage boss. I got discouraged and put the 40T back on, and then realized that with a 130mm, drop bars and aero wheels, I spin out everywhere. Looks way cool though. I'm going to try to get a different crank with 50/34 rings on there at some point. However, I hopped onto craigslist one day between meetings at work and found this CAAD8 for an embarrassingly low amount of money. The guy was a contractor, didn't know anything about bikes, he said that he was doing some work on a house and a guy offered it to him as payment for a job he was doing. He didn't look like he was on drugs and was in a $60k F250 so I figured the story was legit. Hopefully I didn't buy anyone's stolen bike. Anyways, its got a weird assortment of parts on it, 9-speed ultegra shifters, tiagra RD, Campy Mirage FD (my first campy!), Shimano 600 single pivot brakes and Bontrager Race Lite wheels. The bars are TTT "The"'s and I used to have a set on my first bike. Those broke on me during a ride though, so I've got no fond memories of them. They'll be replaced soon, but I'm unsure how modern bars will work with the 9-speed shimano stuff. Part of me wants to toss a modern 105 group on with HED Jet RC4's and a Quarq. Part of me wants to be cheap and just ride this thing. I think the upgrades are going to happen eventually though. |
