Hey, where are those roads in Frederick? I'm in Montgomery Co. and want to include some new scenery on my rides now that the weather is picking up.

Inspired by joostx's dawn patrol. Nothing quite as pretty as his, but it'll have to do

Here's the cues for a little 14mi loop that hits the roads all the pics were taken on.
On Devilbiss Bridge Rd you should be able to park on the west bank of the Monocacy river. Turn right onto Lenhart Rd Turn left onto Old Frederick Rd Turn right onto Utica Rd Turn right onto Hessong Bridge Rd Turn right onto Angleberger Rd Angleberger Rd turns slightly right and becomes Stevens Rd Turn right onto Wilhide Rd Turn left onto Lewistown Rd Slight left onto Old Frederick Rd Turn right onto Links Bridge Rd Turn right onto Dublin Rd Turn left onto Links Rd Turn right onto Glade Rd Turn left to stay on Glade Rd Turn left onto Devilbiss Bridge Rd There's lots and lots of gorgeous farms out this way, and on this loop the covered bridge on Utica Rd is nice. When building a route, I find that using Satellite mode to find non-lined and gravel roads works pretty well, then I just try linking them together. |

The vast majority of my riding is (unfortunately for me) paved. Even the little one lane and non-lined farm roads are mainly paved. Most of my routes are built around getting me to the bits of unpaved stuff using the least traveled farm roads I can find. |

Looks like your Litespeed had to stop for a pee. Old things do that.

Doolittle and Boonton
This former airfield (now a park for soccer) is part of my regular route and belonged to the Aircraft Radio Corporation. In 1929, Army Air Corps pilot Jimmy Doolittle made history at Boonton by taking off and landing from the ARC field purely by use of radio beacon and transmitter, without looking out of the cockpit. The work he and the ARC engineers did on that field revolutionized aviation, making it possible for pilots to fly just about any kind of plane in virtually any conditions. Up until then, pilots generally used ground landmarks to assess their route, which limited their ability to fly at night or in adverse weather conditions.
Some of the former hangars are still being used for storing equipment. Since it is Spring and the Classic/Monuments season was underway, a good time for a ride on a classic.

This forum should really have a thread devoted solely to your photos. Always stunning.
