I think there will continue to be some demand, albeit modest and limited to the enthusiast community. Still better than other contemporaneous cars that will fade into oblivion, unloved and unwanted.

They are supposed to be overbuilt but I would also think that the AMGs that he sees at Beverly Hills MB aren't the hardest driven cars in the world.

Nothing to do with either. The Golf and the (European) Passat are built on the MQB platform for transverse engine front wheel drive & four-wheel drive, while the A6 is built on the MLB platform for longitudinal front engine automobiles.

Well, after 8 years I sold my Acura TSX Sport Wagon and finally joined the American public and bought an SUV! Well, a compact crossover actually. I still needed room to fit my bike and, on occasion, my dog in back. My choice was a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve (GTR). I must admit I am impressed at all the tech new cars have: Blind spot monitoring, lane assist, autonomous braking, heads up display etc. The real icing on the cake is how it drives. All the reviews said the CX-5 was one of the few crossovers that was still fun to drive and they were right. Its faster than the TSX and, while it does not corner quite as well, its not far off and much more comfortable over broken pavement and potholes. And, the interior is clean and pure, not the busy monstrosities so many are today.

Let’s hope it doesn’t have too much lineage to the old A6 based allroad. I had a 2004 2.7T allroad and it was a complete nightmare.

i drove one and liked it...but the tiny buttons on the dash and the knob on the console for doing stuff drove me a little crazy.
