Keith-pal, I wish, believe me I do...the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Currently on perpetual vacation aka unemployed...since April, so discretionary spending is ...er....discretionary.

The 585 is certainly one of the best frame and fork combos ever. I've ridden an Ultra and loved it - plenty comfortable. I imagine a standard version would ride very smoothly. Has Look outsourced their frame production to China with the 6-series?

OK, 585 lovers. How do these compare with a modern Tarmac SL4? I rode a Tarmac a few weeks ago and was quite smitten, but pristine 585s come up on ebay pretty regularly.

I can't comment on a Tarmac. I have a 585 ultra in xxl and it is a great bike. Comfy and a stiff drivetrain. Quick and responsive handling, but not twitchy. Nicely balanced in a number of ways. The original build I did had a record alloy crank. I swapped it out for a carbon UT crank. The carbon crank made a world of difference to make the driveline feel more direct and connected. A 585 can be had for a nice price. Bargains are out there.

Interesting post from a guy who owned a 585 and then "upgraded" to a 675...

The Fall weather in Austin has turned out really nice, did a ride in the afternoon with the Taylor...and it was awful. I could find absolutely nothing wrong with that thing...none,...zero..., I mean, I couldn't even make up an excuse to justify getting the 585 as much as I want to
