I don't care what the statistics are.
A helmet saved my life. You'll never see me on a bike without one.

But if you had left about 20 seconds earlier on your ride, because you weren't strapping on your helmet, would you still have been in an accident? Sounds like a question out of the Matrix, doesn't it?

No, it sound like an endless loop of what ifs that will add very little value to much of anything.

Helmet use should be optional for adults and mandatory for children. In a generation you'd have most people wearing helmets.

Enough of this, 'nothing to protect' if you CHOOSE to not wear a helmet. A helmet is NOT a panacea to no injury if you crash. Enough of this, 'saved my life'...maybe, maybe not. I wear helmet, but if I see somebody who doesn't, like so what..not gonna get in their face about it. NO helmet law for motorcycles in Colorado...I think that's nuts... Quote:

1) As far as I know, no one's claiming that.
2) Just because it isn't perfect doesn't mean that it won't help reduce the shock of skull hitting pavement. |

For what it’s worth I mostly grew up not wearing a helmet too. And yesterday I rolled out for a ride and forgot my helmet and had to go back for it.
My kid crashed pretty hard in the driveway Friday right after I started this thread. First time he went out on a road bike. He did fine riding out in traffic and then washed the front wheel out turning too hard 30 seconds before the ride was over. I was glad he had a helmet. It was exactly the kind of tame ride people would say you don’t need a helmet for. The leaves are falling here and I think he might have hit some. |

With the helmet on I was knocked out the entire day. The Doctors were much more concerned with the bleeding in my brain than my fractured hip.

Helmets are only useful if they are put on right and fit.
My area most have helmets, but half of them are loose, even not buckled |

Wear one if you want or don't. I've been riding bikes since I was 6 years old and never wore one until I was 29. I have had instances where I was very happy to have one on, so I have stuck with them, but I know folks who don't and that is their choice.
My buddy was hit out in Illinois two days ago helmet free and he was fine other than some bruising above the eye and some scratches. I had a member of the local velo club hit last year with one on and he is dead, so do what you want. Nobody should care one way or the other unless it's their own personal choice or they put together an event IMHO.
