Heck many of us would probably love to be in this guys' shoes as owner of Moots. Gotta give the guy credit for being straightforward on pricing:

“We build a bike and it rolls out with the Moots name on it. And because of our limited number [of bikes built per year], we price them accordingly to pay for our wages and our team. We don’t discount. All of the bikes are hand built in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and we don’t want to lose that. From a growth perspective, we’re not trying to blow the doors off–I’m happy with slow and steady.”

That said, man that bike is fugly!

I've bought bikes from both, the Moots frame and fork were a step above the No22. Dealing with Moots was a pleasure (and their dealer), dealing with No22 was incredibly frustrating. At least then No22 back then was significantly cheaper. No22 probably has the more interesting vision at this time and better marketing. Moots really needs to step up its game there.

I think a lot of what you're paying for with Moots is the certain knowledge that everything from the buying process to the finished product will be flawless, but you're not getting anything super fancy. You're getting something relatively simple but done extremely well.

Where Moots 'spends' it's marketing 'money' is having a dealer network and you mentioned how that pays dividends in record sales.

And don't forget actually seeing and riding a demo bike..Something that you can't do with the direct to consumer brands. As I mentioned, would you buy a Ducati direct? W/o seeing one in person, riding one, just looking at the inter web pix?

Or take some relatively inexpensive carbon 'cloth', some glue..lay it in a mold, squeeze and heat some, hang some parts on it...put it into a box and ship to the US...and viola, a $15,000 Spec or trek or giant.

From the article, it's hard to see how Moots could have a better owner.

I'm sure can have this bike with a conventional front end, if you want. I have to warn you that it will cost you 5 watts at 30 mph. Of course you could always make up for it by bending your elbows.

there's alot to like about moots, but there's always something that "just aint right" that makes me pause before seriously looking into them.

This quest to make metal bikes like carbon with all the wires concealed in the name of aero and aesthetic...

I think both Moots and Mosaic (with all those nonsense paint jobs and the Pro Closet special editions) are losing it. They no longer have that raw, metal utilitarian yet elegant appeal, at least to me.

Let alone their price strategy...a $13k ultegra bike? huge, huge pass for me...

Few years back when gravel was emerging fast, at least in my case, paying a premium for a Moots or Mosaic or Firefly made sense because u couldn't find many other ti frame with the same levels of details, functionality and versatility,,,but nowadays plenty of ready to made frame for my needs, both in steel and Ti.
