Eff it. I went from “sideways” to “upside down.” Progress!

couple days of outstanding riding here in NJ.
thanksgiving morning started a little overcast with some light rain, but as the ride progressed the sun came out and warmed the day to a sunny 65 or so. Black Friday, more of the same - low 60's and sunny. Cant beat short sleeves in late November; Life is good!

Moonlight Ride
Very nice day here as well, perhaps the last day of the year in the mid 50s. I was determined to ride some more county roads that I've never been on before but was delayed until mid afternoon waiting for a FedEx delivery that required a signature. So it ended up being after 3:30 when I started a 35 mile ride that was 50% gravel. Pictures were taken after sundown at mile 12. Moon was already up and nearly full. I rode the rest of the route by moonlight, had lights but never used them. Yes it's flat in that part of the county, only 900' of climbing in 35 miles.

Took advantage of the mild weather and got the Aspero out on some proper gravel. Western part of Loudoun County VA.

Ride from Sunday, November 15 . . .
My friends, Paul, John, and Tom and I went down to the Catskills west of Kingston to do a 50-mile loop that takes in some great scenery, even now that winter has set in. We started in West Shokan, NY, near the Ashokan reservoir, and rode a long loop that in general goes around Ashokan High Point and then north up the valley between High Point and Peekamoose Mountain.
Actually, having no leaves was a benefit, since it opens up scenery to view that I’d never seen on my previous trips down here. In particular on the climb to Peekamoose saddle, it had rained the night before, and we passed at least 8 waterfalls that were running in addition to the well-known Buttermilk Falls. The weather was in the mid 40’s and got windy at times, but we were all properly equipped and had a great time, even though the sun promised by the weather bureau only made an appearance for a few minutes. This is a beautiful area to ride in, with lots of back roads and cool finds along the way, and while we skipped the new Ashokan Rail Trail, that’s also well worth a trip in itself. All these photos were made with my Panasonic Lumix ZS70, and thanks to my riding buddies for all their patience with me wanting to get photos! BBD

November 21 ride . . .
Great gravel ride with some friends up into the hills surrounding Hoosick, NY. The trees may be bare and the ground largely brown, but there were still some great views to be found and some great times with friends old and new on the route that was 80% gravel. We ended up with 28 miles and over 2100 feet of climbing on this route that just seemed to do nothing but go up and down, up and down . . .
We discovered such great roads as Nick Mush, Ryan Gross, Otter Creek, and Clum. Then there were Sleepy Hollow and Factory Hollow, and of course John Henry Road with its eclectic collection of bottomless mud holes and abandoned furniture. At one point, the "Ramblin' Rose" bus followed us for at least a mile as we headed toward our next turn. It looked like a full-blown Vermont Hippie Bus, with curtains and the chimney for an internal stove poking out the side and up to the sky. Nice guy, though . . . followed us politely until we turned off and he went straight. To top off a great day, on the way home we stopped at Brown’s Brewing for some, ah, “recovery” and my favorite brew was on sale for $15 a case. Score! Photos shot with my Panasonic Lumix ZS70.
