The Nagasawa deserves something much much nicer.

(I have some Superbe Pro or DA7600 track cranks that would be more appropriate...)

As comfortable as the GK 38s were for road use, I wanted a slightly narrower, faster tire. Just waiting for a pair of Goodyear F1 32s to arrive shortly. The GKs are going onto a PWB hand built, Kinlin rims, gravel wheelset.

Nice

I saw that photo on Insta and can't figure out if it's soft or back focused, razor thin DOF or just out of focus but I like it.

Cool hat.

Look pal, thank you for your kind offer and I agree, this bike deserves better components that I can offer at the moment, not least of all, it needs a better, more experienced track or keirin rider than a newbie like me.

Nevertheless, this is how it works in my world...

All the parts that I ended up using on this bike came from various visits to my local co-op in the past. They are like orphans that I took in. I have no idea when I am gonna call them up into service or whether they will ever be used. So, they just kinda sit in my parts bin until one day....

I have always been fascinated with watching velodrome / track racing during the worlds and the Olympics. It's one of the earliest influences in my life that brought me into cycling. I have never stepped into a velodrome before. Other than a very short stint building up a fixie and riding it for a couple of weeks, my experience with fixed gear is almost non-existent. So this is all pretty new to me.

When I build a bike up, I try to utilize whatever existing parts I have. I don't try to spend a lot of time or money agonizing over it. I just want to get it up and running in record time. That's just me.

Ride first, talk (or improve) later. :-p

Riding the track is easy as long as you follow a few simple-to-remember rules

1. never, EVER! stop pedaling
2. Don't turn right
3. Don't underlap wheels

The rest is a lot like riding and racing a bike.

Houston has a track, right? I expect to see results pretty quickly there Tough Guy

Best thing about racing track? Multiple races in a night. Try something and if it doesn't work, try something else next race.

Unless you really want a sprint workout, don't surf the back of a miss-n-out. AMHIK

Once you get comfortable, learn to ride/race the Madison. That sling in? Best feeling ever.

M

edited to add: whoops! You're in Austin. Nevermind

Fun times

If there was a track within a reasonable distance to NoVA, I'd be back on the track in a heartbeat

On my "workstand" today...replacing the belt on my Elite Direto trainer.

After exchange of a couple of emails with Elite slr, they sent out a belt replacement kit (belt and pulley); got it in three days, gratis.

The problem:

Old belt and pulley taken off:

New belt and pulley installed; ready to close up and recalibrate the machine:

If we are going to be helping out a new trackie, I think we need to have our nomenclature correct. I am betting you meant to say " Don't overlap wheels" or did you mean don't ride lower on the track, than the rider immediately in-front of you. Always position yourself above to have an out and the ability to use the track banking to control your speed.
