Great shots.
I went for a 2 hour paved road ride. Chilly but beautiful day.
We had the same cool pattern with snow persisting on the shaded sides of the trees.

Halloween ride, new Moots decals.

Nice day today in west Michigan. Got out for 30. New old stock Moots decals and panel bands I added. Think it's my favorite version of decals I've had.

Vermont ride several weeks ago . . .

. . . Never got a chance to post pics.

BBD

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was like riding through a postcard–with a visit to the Master himself as a bonus.

Early in October my friends Bill and Dave and I did 38 miles through the hills and back roads near Arlington, VT. Down in the valleys–where the cold air settles at night–many trees were already past peak foliage. But up on the mountainsides the color was still spectacular, and much of our ride was like riding through a living, breathing Normal Rockwell painting.

The hills were often steep, and there were a lot of them. But our reward was seeing the real rural Vermont back roads that most tourists never go near. There were no antique shops of factory outlets. Only beautiful trees, (mostly) smooth gravel roads, and the peace, quiet, and fellowship we were seeking.

On the way both out and back we got a bonus, riding past Norman Rockwell’s home and studio along the Battenkill River. Rockwell lived here for many years before moving to Stockbridge, MA, and produced some of his best work here. Stand in the road intersection in front of his home and you can see the barns down the road and the church and covered bridge that appeared in some of his paintings.

On the way back, we encountered artist George Van Hook from Cambridge, NY, who was seeking inspiration from this same beautiful valley that supplied Rockwell with so many of his scenes. We also met Kevin Harter, who now owns the Rockwell house and runs it as a B&B. He offered to take us on a tour of Rockwell’s studio in the back yard and we jumped at the chance!

As a former photojournalist, I’ve always admired Rockwell’s realistic painting style and his preference for painting “moments”–scenes where all the visual elements come together to tell a far larger story to educate, inspire, or motivate. It gave me the chills to stand in the same room where The Master himself created some of his best work.

It was truly an epic ride on a beautiful day that I will remember for a long time.
