For a recent long road trip out west I bought a new compilation of the Highwaymen in concert. The song that's stuck in my head is Waylon's "The King is Gone (So are You)". Its lyrics involve an Elvis-shaped whiskey decanter and a Fred Flintstone jelly jar. It's so stupid it's brilliant.

Winter, new song from New Model Army.
Best band virtually nobody (especially in the USA) has ever heard of. Banned from the USA during the Reagan administration, presumably for singing about keeping cruise missiles out of the UK. Free speech and all that. Still at it, still excellent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3XfvYoAoBU |

Funny but I remember as a kid someone gave us a Jim Beam decanter bottle shaped like Elvis so we actually had that bottle. I think it was Jim Beam. Been listening to a lot of country recently. Some really good young folks doing kinda old school country right now. Margo Price, Elizabeth Cook, Sturgil Simpson Just saw Hayes Carll live and if you get a chance and have even the remotest interest in country you should see him. He's very talented and also quite funny. My wife hates country and downloaded some of his music after the concert. |

Wow...Didn't know they were still playing...I've got a pretty decent full-show live recording from them in Indy a few years back (not full band, though), where they cover 'Masters of War'...good stuff.

Today musical selection was inspired by another post that got me reminiscin'... one of the best, if not the best years for rap music (back when it was good) 1993. Actually 1990-1998 was the era of the best most original and profound rap music. So much good stuff in them days but for today some more Jazzmatazz Vol.1...

Well, this was stuck in my head: "Toro toro taxi, see you later my son..."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQBKUPwG_Gk And the only way to get it out was to play this: "check out Guitar George he knows all the chords Mind he's strictly rhythm he doesn't want to make it cry or sing Left-handed old guitar is all he can afford When he gets up under the lights to play his thing" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SEULZIHru0 Which is now stuck in my head!
