Started a thread on figuring out the model year of 585s by paint schemes if anyone has any knowledge:

When information was more current in my head, I thought mine was a 2007 (replacement fork). This is a few years ago, after I just put it together... Last edited by paredown; 03-12-2024 at 10:49 AM. |

Only because I had that 585 clear-over-weave and graphic theme around 2005 -2007 and it rode great!!! Then a bike shop cracked the seat tube in a stand.
Crushed; frame(lit)/me(figuratively). They were cool about it and got me a new one from LOOK asap. I was fortunate in that they were still available at the time of crushification. I kinda want a back up. |

I crashed into a kangaroo a few weeks ago on my 585, snapped one arm of the fork clear off. The frame looks OK but I wouldn't trust it. This is very sad. Wish I had a backup.
2007 or 2008 pro-team white, size small. |

Recently picked up this fine example of this legendary bike. Coming from a Ritchey Road Logic and another Tange Prestige frame, it is a natural fit with very agreeable ride qualities. It is also wonderfully light, tipping the scales at 15.0lbs. I understand why it has such a venerable reputation.

Damn Facebook Marketplace
I used to own a 585 until it was stolen. I replaced it with a Hampsten Maglia Road built to the geometry of the Look. Then this one appeared on Facebook Marketplace and, well you know the rest...
Its not my favorite Look paint scheme, but that won't effect the ride. I have a Campy 10 speed Chorus groups that has been sitting in boxes waiting for a frame. Now I have the frame. |

I was watching the one that was on eBay that someone posted on the Barn Finds thread, and resisted. I would like to try one that has the original fork, just to reassure myself that I'm not missing out with my aftermarket fork. |

Can someone check my trignometry?
Can someone check my math here?
According to Geometry Geeks, the Look 585 in a medium supposedly has a reach of 386mm: https://geometrygeeks.bike/bike/look-585-2008/ Checking the geo chart, and calculating it, I get a different reach. 585 geocharts: https://ep1.pinkbike.org/p4pb14497764/p4pb14497764.jpg This should just be virtual top-tube - setback from BB (B - E), right? Calculating my own E here: Code:
sin (90º*- STA) * A1 - we want A1 because it meets with B in the diagram = sin (90º - 73.73º) * 530 = 0.27982901 * 530 = 148.3mm - this matches up with the E in the chart 545 - 148.3 = 396mm for reach. This seem right? Thanks! |
