Yes, I take great comfort in the brewing process (simple Melitta cone with Ozo Coffee from Boulder), but I really miss the interaction with the staff at the shop. Cool thing: they set up a "tip jar" on Venmo so I go in every other week and pay their tips to the jar, even though I'm brewing my own. So the shop gets my money from my mail-order beans, and the staff still gets their tips. |

That Niche grinder looks cool, but they want close to 900 Cad + shipping, then import fees, etc. Puts it up in the range of some pretty darn good existing grinders.
Has anyone tried the Eureka Atom grinder? Looks like a good option and quiet. |

Seems like people love the Niche Zero. I see it's running about $622 on Indiegogo. What have people been paying for shipping + duties? Can't seem to get a clear answer on indiegogo.

Old rule was that no duties levied on goods costing less than $800 USD

My niche also ran about $680, no extra fees.

Stopwatch, Park Tool Scale, Hario V60 Ceramic, Unbleached Filter Paper, Spice Grinder (i know i need a Burr), Tea Kettle, Diner Mug, locally roasted beans that were roasted within the past week. Right now digging Andytown's "TIMOR-LESTE ERMERA LETEFOHO". Weird name but its bright and light. Damn, i really miss espresso stop during rides...

Not much difference from a hand coffee grinder other than the coffee grinder typically has a handle for leverage. |

So much discussion of fancy grinders.
Ceado 37s Niche Rancilio Rocky Do these do so much better than my Baratza Encore? (I'm doing pour-over, mind you, so if they're better for espresso, that explains it.) |

I have a slightly fancier version of the Encore. Lots of ground retention, not to mention that the end result isn't consistent. The adjustment seems to get rattled by the grinding, so that even though the setting indicates x, it could in effect be x+1 or x-1. For instance, I grind my caffeinated beans at a setting of 8, and I want 16.75g of grounds. Sometimes, this gets me 45g of extracted espresso in 33 seconds of extraction and 3 seconds of preinfusion. Other times, I'd get more than 50g (how much more, I don't know, as the cup would overflow). Yet other times, I may get around 38g. Also, big step up from Rocky to Niche |
