Imagine Dragons "Shots" and "Polaroid" ... something about their music when I am in this kind of funk called life.

Wednesday night I was teaching my band an arrangement of Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Resolution" so that's been stuck in my head all week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpR8vfnrEeY
Last week I went on a crazy kick immersing myself in 1980s corporate stadium rock (don't ask), and so this surprisingly commercial gem from Yes got lodged in my craw for several days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOr0ipW4jvY Last edited by Bob Ross; 05-20-2016 at 11:01 AM. |

Great groove from 7:00 to around 12:00.
Whole thing makes for great winter trainer music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6kGbZuEp1M The first comment in there, after watching one enthusiastic fan at front....classic! JoJo Mayer--one of the all time greats. Last edited by 54ny77; 05-20-2016 at 12:34 PM. |

Hey, thanks for turning me on to that! Seems like there's a whole subgenre of jazz (sic) that's been gaining popularity amongst today's utes -- witness the audience in that video -- that functions as a sort of post-EDM bastard grandchild of the Ramsay Lewis Funk/Soul-As-Vehicle-For-Improvisation thing. I blame Medeski, Martin, & Wood for its initial resurgance, but these guys sound like contemporaries of Wulfpeck and/or Snarky Puppy...perhaps a bit more abstract than those acts, but all coming from the same general corner of the spectrum. Me like. |

Just came across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP58Z6u3Hn0
Odd voice that sounds like he has troubles with pronunciation, but when he speaks, he's totally clear. Very stripped down and simple. I am digging it and have been streaming on Youtube as I work this AM> Strangely, he is from rural Saskatchewan near where my extended family lives. My cousin is a musician of some repute there - I bet they know each other! |
