A lot of memories wrenching on the 1970 Chevelle my old man pulled home for me when I was 15 along with him. That pic gave me the feels. What a beauty.

Sometimes it's worth waking up at 4:30 in the morning
Did some other roads this morning. Holding on to the early summer light as long as I can. |

Pretty water lake today. Usually packed with people fishing this time of year, but not this morning!

Been riding earlier and earlier in the day because of the triple-digits norms.

One of my favorite loops here in the mountains of Virginia. A ride down a long rolling valley then up and over a cat 1 climb and back down the next rolling valley.

Did some exploring in my new neighborhood, the Alsace mountains, and rode to the Colle du Ballon Servance which is a hidden gem right next to the much busier "Ballon d'Alsace" (which is only 20m higher). The Ballon d'Alsace is known for being the first Col ever to be part of the Tour de France in 1908.
Start from Belfort through Errevet to Plancher les Mines. The mining heritage of the region is still visible in many places. One can see this almost stereotypical little french village has TdF history: which is understandable, the road up the "Planche des belles filles" (="tableau of the pretty daughters") forks a few meters after the village. Tempting as the name was, i still stayed on the main road, which is a very narrow little gem and rode up to the Col du Ballon Servance. Sadly, the points with a view on top are military restricted area. The road continues to the town of Servance and so the Col can be combined into a delightful little round trip either returning eastward the Ballon d'Alsace, or south via Fresse. This all is already part of the dapartment Burgogne, so a stop in one of the many characteristic small brasseries is highly recommended!
