Lovely 70 miles in the catskills yesterday. Weather was picture perfect for logging miles. Funny, havent done this in a while, but 10 miles in, realized i forgot my helmet in the car, just the cap on. It was really nice to ride without a helmet again. fortunately very low traffic all day, so not a concern. beautiful.
In the middle of a long slow climb, it was getting hot. sun out, exposed. then, out of nowhere, a pipeline from heaven. PVC coming down the mountain with fresh water flowing. it was like an alpine miracle! stopped, stuck my head under icy icy cold mountain water. wet my cap and bandana and re-charged! Seriously loving my new Alfa. Can not imagine a better carbon road bike, especially for my uses.

If I had the views and terrain to ride as many on this forum do I’d probably lose my job. Nice picks, Angry!

Lovely sunny day on Saturday to pedal on the farm roads, but going out at the hottest point of the day was not a good move. Need to get better with timing as the summer heats up.

Adirondacks ride yesterday . . .
I have ridden in this area before, but never done this particular ride from the Paradox Brewery at North Hudson (just off the Northway I-87 at Exit 29) west on Blue Ridge Road and on to the end of the road at the High Peaks trail head at Tahawus. So I was out on this day with Doug scouting this route for the Bike Adirondacks small group tours I am leading later this summer.
There are some stiff climbs on the way west, including one two-miler between 8-10% that seems to go on forever! But once you get over the top and start the final ten miles to Tahawus, it all becomes worth it as you pass both stunning views of the Adirondack High Peaks and samples of the rich history this area has of first iron, then titanium mining. We had the whole day to enjoy this ride, so there were frequent stops for photos and just enjoying the views. We just had to do it quickly, because it only took the black flies a minute or so to realize we were there--and once they did, it was time to get moving again! But to be fair, I had forgotten to put on any insect repellent, and Doug kept getting them caught in his hair under his helmet. But all in all, what a GREAT day and ride! We ended up with just a touch over 59 miles for the whole thing and capped it off with celebratory brews at the brand new Paradox Brewery back in North Hudson. As for climb, Monsour Garmin said 4426 feet, but my Ridewithgps map said 3776 feet, so still trying to work out that conflict.

My old school computers with barometric altimeters hardly ever agree closely with Ridewithgps. Don't know what technology is used in a Garmin, but I'd tend to believe the computer is more accurate. I've also noticed that Ridewithgps often shows a maximum gradient that is less than observed (like when you take a route thinking 8-9% will be OK, but find out it is more like 15%).
