The conversion rate on the "is this available" auto reply is very low. I suspect most are bots. I've started putting in my adds that I won't respond to an auto reply. Even folks that are not bots, more often than not organizing a meeting, pickup time, etc. is a total mess. Even on local neighborhood only groups. The hassle doesn't outweigh the return much of the time.

I don't understand the ghosting, either.
Not a FB user, but just last week, my wife was selling something on FB. They FB messaged a few times, the buyer (supposedly local) wanted it and asked for a cell # to text with. There was no reason for a phone # and my wife said no, just use messenger. Silence. I figured maybe a cell # is valuable data that can be linked to a FB account???? |

Pinkbike and Facebook both get things like “Could you send me pics through WhatsApp? I buy to resell and have a customer looking for a carbon bar” or asking for info by text. I’ve been ghosted on Craigslist, Facebook, heck I’ve had it happen here. Facebook’s Is item still avail don’t get a response from me. The bulk of those come right after a listing is added.

I don't have fbook, but my wife does, mostly for keeping track of local stuff, and occasionally using the marketplace.
Oof, not just there, buying and selling stuff, especially at the mid to lower end of the spectrum has gotten orders of magnitude more frustrating than it used to be. We're getting to a point where a lot of these online tools that really brought people together and made things easier, like craigslist are turning at best useless, and at worse working against us.
