I have a set of Hope RX4 hubs on my CX/gravel bike for 5 years now, and they've really been thrashed... riding in the rain, gravel, mud, water crossings. The only thing that I've had to service is the freehub bearing went tits up but they're super easy to change, no tools.

Have 24 months old ck hubs with no pawl engangement right now. Probably an easy fix but still not what id expect.

Exactly. This **** never happens with DT hubs.

CK: great stuff, but WAAAY over-engineered...and requiring WAAAAAAAY too much maintenance.

DT Swiss are easier to maintain, for sure and they are more compatible. But DA is hard to beat.

There is something to be said for being able to use basic tools to disassemble a set of shimanos, and then walk into a hardware store and get the bearings you need to get them up and running. Even though Shimano may not be as interchangeable between all the “standards” out there like most DT hubs of a given era, let’s not forget shimano has DT on the less noise. I personally like a loud hub, but respect the game.

I only own DTSwiss hubs.

There is a good thread across the hall about this from about 2013, it includes some examples and has advice from a few members that post here as well.

I have a local bud (who is infrequently on PL, I believe) who has done this and they looked great. He is a perfectionist - you gotta have that trait to make this kind of stuff look good.

I think silver hubs are gorgeous looking. Coloured hubs can look great but often arent portable to another bike.

If Shimano made silver rim brake DuraAce hubs I'd be all over them.
