At this point, I'm unclear what's current vs older SRAM stuff. They make both the Force and Red AXS wireless shifters in a 12s wireless, rim brake version. They're both somewhat readily available with some searching, but I expect that'll change someday. That's what I've gone with. Also, obviously, there was a 11s version of Red.

In my view, for a do it all, coupled, travel bike, a 1x12 wireless bike is the best option for simplicity of packing and setup.

I found that the harder it is to pack and assemble, the less likely I was to take the bike along. I've gone to great lengths to simplify this process and 1x12 wireless, with canti brakes, makes this far easier. Remember, you'll likely need to remove your derailleur when packing too. Having no derailleur cable helps lots.

The big advantage of the S&S case is that, at 26”x26”x10” it is small enough to not qualify as “oversized” by any major airline, and so you will not be charged a premium. It’s just another suitcase to them.

That also makes it very easy to wheel through airports/train stations, and to fit in taxis or rental cars.

S&S case

That’s great. Wonder if I can a Z coupled single speed (with 700c wheels) into the S&S case. Think so?

What size bike do you ride again? Almost certainly the answer is yes though.

Honestly, unless you happen to be a super strong rider, I would add gears to a travel bike, adds so much more versatility to the terrain you can travel to and enjoy. I just rebuilt my travel bike as 1x and it's ideal for me. Going single-speed would severely limit what I could do with the bike; like - mountains .

Ask and you shall receive... Z-couplers go in the same spots as the S&S, so the bike breaks down exactly the same way. I went with the Buxombox Galibier over the S&S case because I preferred the aluminum construction and their supports internally. It's a really well thought out design, that I believe they're only doing as special order if at all anymore. I got one of the last ones

Packed as it sits currently downstairs here in Nashville


Unpacking in Vegas back in June, yes I like to spread it all out

Do you use any sort of inserts for fork and rear dropouts? I guess less necessary for hard cases but probably helpful for soft sided ones like the Co-Motion, Ritchey, Orucase, etc.

Use the through axle if you are running them?
