I thought for sure she'd stop in Ventura, but late last night I saw that she had made it all the way to Malibu. I had hoped to meet her on PCH but by the time I was ready to roll out she was nearly in Santa Monica, so I had to settle for a brief jaunt together on city streets.

I suck at selfies.

I do not envy the upcoming miles she faces through the wasteland of desert leading to Flagstaff where I plan to cross paths in a few days.

She's aiming for a world record and she has time to stop and do selfies with supporters. How great is that?

Boy, the video someone posted earlier really got me right in the feels. I am so impressed by her! Seeing all her happy supporters come to ride with her is genuinely inspiring.

What a total badass.

Well, to be fair, we were stopped at a signal. But even in the short time I rode with her I got such a sense of her as a warm and joyful human.

I've got to imagine that a part of such an enormous solo effort is managing mental health. The mental aspects of performance are so critical - saying hello to fellow human beings that are cheering you on on your journey alone around the world probably has an overall beneficial impact on the ability to do the darn thing.

Bumping this thread - it looks like she's now in Albuquerque.

Be careful Lael, NM drivers are notoriously bad...

Indeed, she just passed through Albuquerque. I rode with her through to the edge of the city. She’s on her way to Madrid for the night.
She’s so gracious and fun. She had to replace her rear tire at a neighbor’s house, and she was so friendly to everyone who’d come out.

She can sure smell a finish line, can’t she? 200+ miles per day for the last two days. I’ve enjoyed how much Rue is amazed by her on the daily podcast updates.

Lael's route took her right by my LBS and bike team sponsor. She was kind enough to stop and take a few pics (they are a Specialized dealer). Super class act.

She's done! Previous record was held by Jenny Graham who completed her attempt in October 2018 in a total of 124 days

I’ll be re-listening to at least parts of the podcast. The tunnels in Turkey, Rue’s ordeals with cars and paperwork … they both accomplished a lot.
