Welcome to the Best Coast!
As someone who lived/road there for a decade before moving to SD (but will be moving back when kids are out of the house), I can say that the riding in LA/surrounds is pretty great. The one factor that virtually no where else can match is that you can ride pretty much any day of the year and not worry about weather. Sure, it rains on occasion....but I'd guess it's maybe 20 days all year and even then that's basically all in Nov-Mar. It will not rain from May-Oct!! Malibu and the west side has world class climbing and the Santa Monica Mountains have tons of trails that are perfect for gravel or MTB (I rode them for years on 28c road bikes). Lots of group ride options and so many places to go explore. Yeah, other places might have one facet better (less traffic/people, etc.), but all in all, it's a pretty great place to ride and I look forward to getting back there in a few years.

What do you mean by "lane sharing"? Motorcycles and cars? Bicycles and cars? Heck, I even see cars and cars and it's not pretty.

if you see a dimly lit pop-up tent with people selling tacos underneath, do yourself a favor and buy some. they will be some of the best tacos you could ever eat.

Watch "City of Gold" to understand how to choose tacos. That's a great movie, but Jitlada (the thai restaurant) is tracked out. It's good, but tough to get a spot during peak hours. Pa Ord down the street is really good for noodles and always has space. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2614776/ |

So there I was... 11 at night riding back from buying a new-to-me KTM 640 Adventure when I hit LA traffic. Wall to wall cars from where the 101 hit the 405. No worries, I'm on a moto I'll just share lanes till I'm out of the rroblem. So I did. IIRC I shared lanes till just about the Orange Co. line when traffic opened back up to San Diego. ...at 80+! After riding down from Oakland, let me tell you, the San Onofre 'bewbs' never looked so good. Didya know that while it may not rain in SoCal, the same can't be said between Monterrey and Santa Barbara? AMHIK M |

There's tons of cool stuff scattered all over LA.
Philly is more livable, but it's not as cool. |
