Yeah, I won't disparage anyone for spending $35k on a bike, and I won't disparage a manufacturer for trying to make a buck any (legal) way they can ...but to paint a bike so that it looks like something from my grandmother's dining room credenza is inexcusable!

Don't knock your grandma's porcelain ware in so foolhardy a manner....

I can see this bike ending up on antiques roadshow far in the future and they will be debating if it is from the ming dynasty, or just a 21st century knockoff.

well Bully for that cleaning magnate. It is a nice bike. Just not fully executed or properly equipped.

You should call and set him straight

Id love to see your bikes.

I would rather have the artwork on the wall instead of on a bike but I like it and if someone has the money and likes it, then its great.
Aesthetics are important to me (in addition to function). I buy things I really like and keep them for a long time - bikes, cars, clothing, watches, furniture, accessories...

I like my bikes better than this bike. It is not a question of price.

Aesthetics mean nothing to me. If I ignore the fancy paint, it looks like a very, very nice bike with a $9,000 set of wheels on it. 6 Kg bike? My bikes are ridden hard and put back wet but I don't own a cleaning business in BangCock.

What's a scarier number? 1,000 000 000 + / 200 000

or

100 000 / 35 000 (I am being very generous with a 100 000 income here )

In other words, who is crazier? Billionaire buying a 200K Porsche or whatever or Average Joe making 80k a year and buying a 30K accord?
That’s not quite the apples to apples comparison, is it?

Billionaire refers to at least one billion in net worth. For average joe, you are expressly referring to annual income.

Net worth =/= income.

Also, even assuming we are talking net worth, by your logic, never mind a $30k vehicle, a family with an eight-figure net worth would be crazy to buy a $3k vehicle.

Occam’s razor would dictate that it’s your standard that’s flawed (though i would agree that a $30k vehicle on a $80k income is a bit high).

Your logic defies me.

He is simply saying, $35k on a bike is peanuts to an individual with a networth of $1 billion and an average Joe paying $30K for an Accord is crazy.

I agree.

Since you guys went there, may I point out you forgot to amortize that 30k over the lifespan of ownership.

Carry on.

He should have asked you to be his editor. His post should have stated the bolded portion of your post above. Anything more (e.g. his standard for assessing craziness in his original post) is tangential and detracts from the point made in the bolded portion of your post.

Also, even with your “editing”/ interpreting, that still doesnt resolve his conflation of net worth with income.

Don't see much to get bent out of shape over.

It's beautifully done (though maybe I would have had the seatpost done instead of the saddle, but that's picking fly poop from the pepper) and I'm sure worth it to the buyer of the bike, otherwise they never would have commissioned it.

The bike's only got to wow the person buying it, at the end of the day.
