That's why I suggested a cruise to Norway. The lodging and food are VERY expensive. We ate on the cruise ship.

I agree. We spent three weeks there last summer. We rented a car, as we did a lot of bopping around. My wife is a birder and a hiker. Very hard to beat.

I fly fish and I must say, it is some of the best fly fishing I've ever experienced.

I fished four different rivers and they were all amazing.

What's the longest that you and your family willing to stay away from home? I get home sick after 3 weeks.

Mallorca is nice because your kids can enjoy the water, and the train and buses are very good. Not sure there are any direct flight to Mallorca for where you're living, so maybe make your base in Girona and fly to places. It seems flying is very cheap. Some flights were cheaper than our taxis. Girona is also easy access to Barcelona and Madrin via train. You can also visit France from Girona too. Spain is cheap compared to places that I have been. People are friendly too and if you're into long rides, cars seem very nice to cyclists.

A big thumbs-up to Slovenia and the Oxford comma.
