Been wanting to do this for awhile. Finally got around to converting a Dura Ace 9000 derailleur to a long cage to replace the 105 shadow long cage I had on my road Ellis.

Works with 34/34 low gear without b-screw mod or Roadlink. Although I'll do my best >not< to go into that gear.

In the meantime, throw a piece of tape under the bridges and behind the seat-tube - 3M heli tape works best - I've seen too many carbon bridges ruined by junk scraping at the underside when it seemed like there was plenty of clearance.
lol!, I wished I had thought of the Parlee or Origin FD clamp, I knew of them but it didn't occur to me at the time, anyway, I rode it about 10 miles and they seemed to be fine, but there was maybe 1mm of clearance to the FD clamp so it was a little worrisome. I had applied little pieces of tape to see if I could see any rubbing, but none....even so, I started this with, as you know, almost no sizing or clearance data available, but with only a hair of clearance, I've decided discretion is the operative word given the crappiness of AZ roads. Anyway, I've replaced them with same brand/type in 28mm which gave an additional clearance of 1.5mm per side, although width was not an issue and about 4mm in height!!...I've not ridden it yet but I'm not expecting any discernible difference in ride or performance. If I decide to try 30's again, I'll reach out to see if you have a spare FD clamp. ...after all, the matte Arundel cage is late of your workshop!

What cage did you put on the DA RD?

It is really funny that if I'd kept my first Ellis, and still got my fourth, that we'd have two identical bikes to eachother, just vastly different sizes. I still kick myself for selling that one. Maybe someday it'll come back to me.....

It’s a piece of dogwood that inserts inside the bottom of the steerer to reinforce it in the unlikely event that the steerer fails while you are hammering across the cobbles in Paris Roubaix, etc....

Gotcha. Figured that's what it was, but not familiar with the nomenclature.

This Franklin came from a friend a bit ago. It's pretty interesting; brazed with True Temper RCX and Columbus dropouts. The fork legs are very slim.

I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do with it, especially after reading about some of the potential issues with RCX.

It sounds way more important when called by its French name.....

I had an old 6700GS kicking around so pilfered from that, but a 6800GS should work as well.

For really?

No way I'm riding a bike that needs a stick to bolster the steerer.

Call me crazy!
