Just got back from a 3 day trip through the highlands of Scotland

Blows my mind that I can swap out the tires/wheels/pedals on my "road" bike, throw some packs on and have a bike so dialed for literally any kind of road I'll come across.

Tell us about your strategy for keeping your feet happy throughout the day while crossing cold rivers. Waterproof shoes or socks? River crossing shoes change?

Second the request for ride report.

Photo essay coming soon. Just need to find the time to get the edits done

Re: feet
Honestly, just embrace the fact you'll be wet all day. It rained for the majority of the trip. Wool socks and base layers helped keep things warm.

Salsa La Cruz

Pre- unPAved ride set-up (hotel room night before shot)

2008? Salsa La Cruz
SRAM Force 10spd 50x34 and 11-34 cassette
TRP HyRd disc brakes
FSA's cheapest disc brake wheel set
Wolftooth B-Rad system to expand the downtube offering to hold 2 cages (works awesome BTW.)

34x34 was not low enough. I've since installed a Wolftooth Roadlink and an 11-40 cassette.

Handlebar bag had food and a battery for my phone, frame bag was for a 3rd bottle and space for a clothing if I got warm (which I did!) I brought way too much food, but being ciliac I'm always wary of what I might (not) find at rest stops. Plus I signed up for the 120, decided the morning of to do the 90, and by rest stop #1 I wasn't that interested in suffering through. Just too nice of a day for me to want to NOT thoroughly enjoy.

The interesting part is I rode a Trek Checkpoint SL6 last year. Obviously a much lighter bike, but I decided this summer that it was nicer than I needed. While I'm sure I'm working harder on the climbs, the ride was overall no less enjoyable (and I bought this bike and a kayak by selling the Trek !)

maybe it's already been said but this is a pretty cool thread. Started in 2013 before we all knew gravel would be the next thing...and the first reply was from Bruce Gordon!!!! Truth: I haven't read all 270 pages.

Coyote Hills indeed! Some of those descents (or climbs) are way steeper in person though.

Agreed, one of the "tests" of my new '96 Stumpjumper was to get up a climb there that my Cannondale Delta V couldn't, but it coulda been "new bike" vapors..

looks like you're running the blackburn outpost elite seat and bar bags -- what do you think of them?
