One of my favorite bikes ever, a Steelman Eurocross, was stolen about 15yrs ago. The perps couldn't get it to fit in their trunk and kept slamming the trunk-lid, damaging the top tube. Thankfully (I guess), they left it behind with its damaged TT. It's taken more than decade, but I've finally got it repaired (by Brent Steelman, even!), and painted. Question is whether to use period appropriate Campagnolo 10, or early era Campagnolo 11? Painted by Mike Corby, Corby Concepts, here in Indianapolis area.

Wow - that is the sweetest cross bike I've seen! Amazing. i think I'd go for early Camp 11 with silver accents and a 36/46 double or some such. Polished silver Pauls brakes, etc. It'll be an awesome build whatever you choose. That color goes so well with the chromed fork.

Really nice Steelman, and that's cool that Brent was able to fix it up for you so many years later.

i'm hardly ever in favor of period correct builds, personally. pick the most functional kit for the type of riding you will do with it and go. beautiful bike there.

Looks great. I might have helped you with the hub search as I went through it (twice now) for my early Salsa Vaya. Ended up with Shimano HB-M775 in the front and FH-M6000 in the rear. The rear replaced an FH-M565, I think, which wore out much more quickly than expected. What did you end up with?

My front is matte silver, but the rear is only pewter. Fortunately it is partially buried behind the cassette and the disk rotor. It does go up to 11 if I ever get around to replacing the DA9 on the bike.

IIRC the alternatives were Hope, maybe WI, and maybe Phil Wood - $$$$.
