We need to do a forum ride in the spring here . . .
. . . It's a great area. Here's a map:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31543280 It's only a short detour onto Rt. 28 at the northwest point of the ride for a stop at Bread Alone Bakery. Fantastic place! https://www.breadalone.com/ There's also a great short detour on Stone Church Road to a spectacular bridge over the Esopus Creek gorge. BBD

Pics from my local club's charity event . . .
. . . on November 2. Lat year for our first Gravel Gobbler we had 94 riders. This year we had 220+ and raised $6,000 for the regional food bank. We had 23 and 38 mile gravel routes and a 31 mile road ride out of S&S Farm Brewery in Nassau, NY. It's right in the middle of miles of dirt road and is the same area where the Farmer's Daughter Gravel Grinder is every May.
BTW, that's CNYRider on the tandem with his daughter crossing the old bridge. A local cycling-supportive restaurant, Bountiful Bread, donated the cookies. They also supply all the food for the lunch stop at the Farmer's Daughter every year. Thanks, guys! BBD

Pics from the same area a few weeks earlier . . .
. . . when I test rode the 23 mile route with a couple of friends. It's a lot easier to get great pics with some fall foliage still left--and cooperative cycling models! Thanks, Chet and John!

Gravel ride at Essex Chain Lakes . . .
. . . with my buddy Chet back in October. Miles of spectacular former logging roads in the heart of the Adirondacks. Now part of the Adirondack Park, with lots of abandoned cabins and beautiful views.
Another great place to organize a forum ride next season. Here's a map . . . https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31543396 BBD

I did the same as you this morning. Man it was cold out!
Took these pics just as the snow started. Hope to be skiing these same trails a day from now. |

Yesterday, at dusk
Look a bit closer... Even closer...are you seeing what I am seeing? Let's play the number guessing game... How many buzzards are perched on that tower?

Got an observation/question. 4th photo down, the rider on the left (w/safety triangle on his bike) looks to have his saddle too high. Not sure if it really is or just an illusion. It appears his right leg is completely straight and toe pointed down close to bottom of pedal stroke. |

Alachua County FL
Hello All!,
Just getting my feet wet on this site. Some pics of my local riding areas, generally not very good photos with the phone; sorry. No grand majestic scenery in Florida, I find riding and driving here depressing. I didn't take any shots when in Massachusetts at Mt. Wachusett this October; the hills are hard enough on this "flatlander" without carrying "non-bike" stuff; phones and cameras are left at home. Photos off the Hawthorne "rail trail" (paved, but with plenty of off-road horse trails) and Kanapaha Park (grass/gravel). Used my "cross" bike (it has 30mm tires, barely fit the road frame), allows for some “light” off-road excursions usually taken in the middle of a road training ride to break it up a little, and keeps me somewhat fit for the New England hills since I’m usually out of the saddle in “climbing mode” and I don’t keep a front derailleur on this bike so staying on the large ring all the time (except for the emergency manual chainring change; hasn’t happened yet). I'll also ride the old Raleigh Sports occasionally to make me slow down and smell the roses. Don't know how to get a photo to post Wonderful photos by all you folks! My "idiot" phone will not let me post all the pictures; or is it me! Take care

A very short ride to my friends' house for his pre-Christmas party-beers and pizzas, then another .5 mi. to main street to catch the tractor parade, taking advantage of a break in the storm...

bit of an odd day here today.
56 degrees in mid december, grey wet and a chill in the air regardless. had to sneak out with the rain bike for 50k or so. likely one of my last rides for 2019.
