Kevin pal, congratulations, welcome to the groader club!
I remembered you asking here for advice about getting a gravel bike. I think have picked a great choice. Do you mind sharing why or how you ended up with what you did?

48 is 1.9 officially.. 50 is 2.0.. I wish I could run 50 in the rear have to get a new bike or maybe use skinny internal width rims that make tires not be true to size. (no thanks)

If your bike can accommodate 700x45 tires, chances are it will fit a 650bx48mm tires. What I have learned from putting those fat tires on my gravel bike is that there comes a point where going too fat may not be a good thing. you want to be able to take advantage of the higher volume and wider tire surface contact area but you don't wanna go so big that it begins to change the way the bike rides or handles in a negative way. This is not about fat tire clearance braggin' right, you only do it because it makes sense and/or serves to enhance the riding experience. In this case, I don't think I want to go any bigger, not on my gravel bike.

I put 650Bx47mm wheel/tires on my bike that was built around 700cX43mm (Bruce Gordon Rock'n'Road). I really did not like the way the bike handled after that change. It became sloppy and less stable. I ran the same experiment on a bike that was designed around 29er (up to 2.1inch). The bike now rides amazing! It's about how the bike rides. |

I found a local shop that sold Giant bikes and finalized a deal with them. I've been waiting several months to take delivery as they've just recently begun to make it into the bloodstream of the market after a slight delay in shipping. It's really all I could want in a gravel bike. I've yet to take my first ride on it due to icy conditions on the side streets but I hope to be out on it before too long. Plus, it looks kinda nice just sitting against the wall in our family room. I've got a hunch that once I get it muddied up it's going to be banished to the garage. I'll be sure to add some additional photos here once I get it out on the road and in its desired element. Kevin g
