It was a micro recession Plus there is still several hours left in the day for trading to cash in profits.

As the folks on Marketplace like to say, the stock market is NOT the economy...

The Stock Market is just a big Casino ever since online trading began.

Hard to imagine how companies even plan their future with present day "investors"

Zero-commission online trading has made it more easily-accessible to retailers, but plenty of traders have always been treating the stock market as a casino. And large entities have always engaged in interesting counterparty games as well.

Like, take the Panic of 1907. It was a financial crisis involving a cascade of bank failures that went international in its scope, alongside a nearly 50% crash in the American stock market... caused by a copper baron family's failed attempt to short-squeeze their own company stock.

And to put it mildly, folks writing about Wall Street in the 30s and 40s generally did not view stock traders as paragons of fundamental analysis and stable behavior.
