A nice hardtail ride over dirt and gravel is great. I often think about a bike like the Moots Baxter and how a 29er with drops would feel? The only complaint I have is the limited hand positions after mile 20 or so with the traditional bars. I think it could be solved with a Jones loop or h-bar, but not sure how the handling would be through the rough stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A hardtail or rigid MTB is certainly a great tool for the job, especially chunky gravel and steep descending. That said, they are a complete drag to ride on pavement, and the one hand position (and thus back position) can be exhausting for a long day in the saddle.
The cross/gravel/allroad/buzzword trend is all about finding the balance. |

I hear you here. I think if someone has a Jones bike w/ the H bars, they're fine.
It is what scares me from buying another one - I fear I can use it for many different rides and won't ride my other bikes. from Jones Bikes's instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl3tO0gh...-by=jonesbikes Last edited by belopsky; 08-01-2018 at 06:20 AM. |

Rim brakes are still cool. Plus some mango additions.

A short ride before the smoke got too bad. The Terrene Elwoods are great on loose gravel and sand.

Saw this Salsa Fargo size XL (the one on the right) at my commute today. It's got huge tire clearance.
