I will preface this by saying I am the worlds worst investor.
As I am nearing retirement I do not have much money in the market.
But I think the market nowadays is different with algorithmic fast trading.
As soon as prices start declining the buying kicks in anticipating the price will eventually up again. Even tiny ups and down can earn a lot of money when you are trading in many millions of dollars. I think this keeps the market from crazy steep declines and there are also circuit breakers that stop that from happening. But we all know it has happened before and could happen again soon.

I think historically when the FED hiked to fight inflation it generally goes CPI + 2% equivalent in the short end to kill the beast.

The over levered economy won't handle that well.

I worked with someone that hid $30k in his back yard in case he had marital problems. When his wife locked him out of the house, he couldn't find it.

At the same place, there was a guy that hid extra money in a bank account, and when his wife locked him out of the house he went and bought a new car.

A friend of mine has $150K hidden in the wall in his basement just in case. I'm the only one who knows its location. A decreased family friend was hiding money from the ex-wife in the backyard and Switzerland. The IRS caught him and he paid. Moisture and bugs got the rest....dumb ****. He must have skipped the physical science lectures pre-med.

Tracking your portfolio?

Thought I'd post this here rather than create a new OT thread.

I've been tracking my portfolio for years using the Morningstar website. While it does require that I post transactions manually, it's been free.

I *do* prefer the manual posting, rather than connecting a third party to my financial firms.

However, Morningstar recently announced that it will be dropping the free version, so I need someplace else to track investments.

Can someone recommend another good website for portfolio tracking, preferably unconnected?

Thanks!

Personal Capital. You can connect automatically, or it also allows you to enter investments manually.

I get all those services free from Chas. Schwab. I don't know if there is a minimum portfolio balance required but the features are very good.
