I was thinking that but virtually all the Excursions I saw had the same 5.4 liter engine as the Expedition. The 460 gas engine was less common or the ones I saw (in the classifieds at the time) had 200k miles on them or were listed by the sketchiest dealers around. The diesel was either too expensive or had too high miles or were listed by the same sketchy dealers.
I did see an F250 with a stick, but that particular one had no back seat. I wanted to have the tow vehicle as a backup family vehicle so it needs a back seat for Junior's car seat. Crew cab or extended cab pick ups command a hefty premium over the Expedition (which is F250-ish from what I can tell, based on the slightly lower F250 towing capacity - the Expedition has a higher capacity rear axle). In a related thing the Excursion won't fit in our storage bay. The Expedition does. I prefer not to store the vehicle outside like I had to with the van. |

Then: Expedition = F150 Excursion = F250 The diesel is a bigger PITA to live with on* a daily basis, but you really can't beat em for towing big, heavy, things. My F250 LOVED to be hooked up and pulling things. You could feel it when you were driving it. If you're looking 4-door, they end up being BIG trucks. Excise me: LONG trucks. Parking gets to be an issue 'cause you need at least 2 spots with 4 being better. AMHIK For a DD, gas is easier to live with, but mileage suffers as does power. M *My PSD needed 13qts of oil, a big ole filter, and if you're anal special anti-freeze that needs changing semi-frequently. That's ?5gal? of anti-freeze. Get the wrong anti-freeze and you get bad things happening in your engine. |

For the trailer to convert RV 30 amp to generator 30 amp. These little things end up taking time - I had no idea there were different standards. This week I should have 110v power in the trailer. Trucks… I thought the Excursion was the F350 in guise, based on drivetrain options, but I'm not a truck/Ford person. I had no idea about the diesels so I'm glad I didn't get one; as it is the plug replacement on the 5.4 liter engines seems like it'll be a pain (I want to do it as soon as the races end in mid April). In 2002 I debated between a (new) 350Z and a (new) crew cab Ram dually pick up. I figured I could justify a dually later but not a 2 seater so I got the Z. The 15 passenger van I had was big, a dually would be just that much more of a pain. I don't plan on driving the Expedition around much on its own other than getting to/from the trailer, although I used it in snowstorms and to buy wood over the winter. |

shop supplies
Finally got some disposable nitrile gloves and shop rags, plus I pledged $50 to this: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...aceable-wrench
so I can get the set of fix it sticks and the t-way. I don't think these will be so good for rides (I'm imagining sweaty or very cold hands, hard breathing, irritated, and dropping a bit and watching it roll into a concrete crack. I'll stick to the multi-tool for rides, everything stays together), but will be excellent for at-home quick fixes, and race weekend tool-kits |

Well, the eBay Luigino is finally done…. Of course it did take a Christmas and a birthday to make it happen…. Oh, and that “perfect” NOS Luigino really was! Not a scratch or mark anywhere! Absolutely new condition (think it’s about an 08).
Highlights: Campy SR drive train. Campy Neutron Ultra wheels w/ Veloflex Master rubber. Nitto cockpit- lugged post and stem w/ Noodle bars. Topped off with a new 05 Brooks Swallow Limited saddle and that wonderful Handlebra stuff in brown. Very happy with the outcome…. NOW MEET LOLA! |
