sometimes i wished they didnt even bother adding them to the tube box, maybe cut back on some waste

I never use the nuts when I'm reduced to using threaded stems ( I dislike them immensely). I also never close the top end of the presta valve with no adverse effects. A friend who is a bit OC, frequently closes them for me in the interest of "safety".

I'll leave the caps on bikes I know are going to get dirty: cross bikes and mtn bikes. Otherwise? No.

Hmm. Interesting. I always screw valve closed because there is a belief in my mind that it's possible to lose pressure while riding if it's left open. May be silly I know but I certainly want to avoid bumping valve with my hand or any other objects once I have tube filled with air.

I use aluminum valve caps anodized to match the color of either the bike or its decals. A pointless and frivolous expense, but I like it.
