His is significantly smaller than this as he uses a hand grinder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9jD2EQXLis |

My friends looks more like this... but he mod'd it so the lever could be easily detached, making it even more compact.

I have been using this for 7-8 years now and it’s great. Will work on electric, induction, or fire. I did break the handle and rebuilt it with a small piece of re-bar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Surprised no one suggested aeropress!
Yeah none of the really portable stuff is gonna be great espresso. Just get the aeropress, its perfect for travel. |

Aaandd now Flair is dominating my feeds on social media
Re: moka pot. It's definitely not like anything else in the coffee world: higher pressure than regular coffee, lower pressure than espresso, gets a "burnt" flavor easily. Having that pot is worth it though, particularly if you follow James Hoffmann's technique. Also, the moka pot works well with milk drinks using the french press as a foamer. I don't use my french press(es) at all anymore ... too much of a pita to clean, and the quality of the brew isn't that great. |

Tons of options here (per usual on the Paceline) but the Aeropress simply rules. It’s durable plastic (buy the stainless filter) and light and dead easy. You really don’t need anything else. I use this at work everyday I am in the office these days - they call me the coffee weirdo.

Agree with many Love the Aeropress & it is my morning coffee but it is NOT espresso
But as others have said a Moka Pot if your looking for as close to espresso as possible in a portable format is quite nice If you for instance boil water first in a kettle then adding to moka pot to finish brewing....that makes the BIGGEST difference rather than burning the coffee Next is knowing when to stop the heat/flow & remove moka pot & sit in cold water to stop brewing process before over extracted coffee bubbles into pot A very good way to learn is taste with a teaspoon a bit of first flowing out ...then taste again every few sec That is a very good way to learn the degrees of extractions & how they all go together to make a balanced taste Espresso machine users have used this as a learning tool using multiple cups catching as it flows out of porta filter |
