I see. I'm not sure if I'm going to like this since I mostly ride road bikes. This would be a big adjustment to move my hand to the tops (roadie speak) just to brake. I brake quite a bit in the drops or on the hoods. If we're on our bull horn/barend horns, it's like being on the hoods of a road bike with no quick access to brakes.

Well, I do have 10sp brifters, so I could just get the TRP HY/RD's, a front derailleur and keep the xx back drivetrain. So good point about changing out the brakes. I also have drop bars, so I could convert my mtn bike into a legal cx bike.
