I bought a used set of campy Neutrons that came with some 23mm Gatorskin wire bead tires. I will bow in submission to whoever got those on in the first place, but I wanted them off. I started by using tire levers and after a few close calls on the razor sharp bladed spokes, I started thinking about what I'd say in the ER while holding my severed fingers in my good hand. I got out my heavy gage wire cutters, the ones I use on 4/0 wire, and cut the tires into pieces until I could pry up the wire beads and cut them. Dodged a bullet there.

I by no means am bashing disc brakes and wireless shifting. I do love it and do have it on several bikes. With that said, the bicycle used to be a simple machine and the advances have brought on an additional and many new issues to be solved when they occur and while a pleasure to ride can raise our anxiety level at times.

One of the earliest moron moments I had, I got my finger caught between the front derailleur cage and the chainring while adjusting gears on my Rockhopper. Looking at my finger stuck halfway down the cage, realizing that I'm going to have to turn the crank back the way it came cause you know your finger fits that way is a 'realization.' Still have the scar from that one. To this day, I put a pedal (or substitute) on the crank to adjust derailleurs. ...and that debacle was ca 1988 (+/- a year or so) M
