Not really. It was a shoulderless 2 lane residential street, with an oncoming vehicle that passed almost simultaneously. Not condoning actions of cyclist, as I said, but dick move by the driver. He could easily have waited until the oncoming car passed, and given more room.

The cyclist behaved poorly here.
They say the driver's ticket was dropped based on dashcam footage. However the dashcam only shows that the driver moved over. It didn't show how much room he gave to pass. I can't think of a single ride I've been on where there weren't a number of drivers who moved over to pass me but did not move over ENOUGH to pass me safely or legally. Indeed, if they hadn't moved over at all I'd be run over. Here we have a 3 foot passing law for cyclists, but I am almost never given three feet by passing cars. There should be better education and more enforcement. |

I can't help but think if the driver had been a grown up that guy would have gotten decked.

Cameras are really bad in this situation. I have seen video from a very close pass and it looks like the person gave us plenty of room.

Yep.. anyone who has used a dashcam or a GoPro or equivalent knows the wide angle perspective makes distances look way bigger than they are.
It's more just the frustration that the car is not treated as the deadly weapon it is in these situations. This kid will probably forever close pass cyclists now, he's got it in his head the system says it's OK and/or justified. |

Unfortunate incident
I agree with the others who have said the kid did a pretty good job of keeping his cool while being confronted by the emotional cyclist. Cooler than I would have been under the circumstances.
Especially when the guy put his hands on his car as well as his body trying to restrain him from what? Running away and leaving his car there? Pushing him could be considered assault and impeding his freedom of movement false imprisonment? Regardless of potential legal definitions/charges etc was that okay for him to do? Bad day for both parties but mostly bad PR for cyclists. It wasn't just this kid...Gary apparently has a reputation around town. https://www.reddit.com/r/ParkCity/co..._gary_peacock/ Last edited by Mike Lopez; Today at 03:46 PM.
