Not really. It was a shoulderless 2 lane residential street, with an oncoming vehicle that passed almost simultaneously. Not condoning actions of cyclist, as I said, but dick move by the driver. He could easily have waited until the oncoming car passed, and given more room.

The cyclist behaved poorly here.

They say the driver's ticket was dropped based on dashcam footage.

However the dashcam only shows that the driver moved over. It didn't show how much room he gave to pass.

I can't think of a single ride I've been on where there weren't a number of drivers who moved over to pass me but did not move over ENOUGH to pass me safely or legally. Indeed, if they hadn't moved over at all I'd be run over. Here we have a 3 foot passing law for cyclists, but I am almost never given three feet by passing cars. There should be better education and more enforcement.

I can't help but think if the driver had been a grown up that guy would have gotten decked.

Cameras are really bad in this situation. I have seen video from a very close pass and it looks like the person gave us plenty of room.

Yep.. anyone who has used a dashcam or a GoPro or equivalent knows the wide angle perspective makes distances look way bigger than they are.

It's more just the frustration that the car is not treated as the deadly weapon it is in these situations.

This kid will probably forever close pass cyclists now, he's got it in his head the system says it's OK and/or justified.

Unfortunate incident

I agree with the others who have said the kid did a pretty good job of keeping his cool while being confronted by the emotional cyclist. Cooler than I would have been under the circumstances.

Especially when the guy put his hands on his car as well as his body trying to restrain him from what? Running away and leaving his car there? Pushing him could be considered assault and impeding his freedom of movement false imprisonment? Regardless of potential legal definitions/charges etc was that okay for him to do?

Bad day for both parties but mostly bad PR for cyclists.

It wasn't just this kid...Gary apparently has a reputation around town. https://www.reddit.com/r/ParkCity/co..._gary_peacock/

That was sad. The old guy needs to mellow out. Maybe its the moustache?

Seriously, could be dementia coming on. He's 73, somehow made it far enough to live in a really expensive resort town, so had his act together to do all that, but now he's getting angry. Some in that state are happy clueless, some just start raging.

Also, according to Reddit, from a link, sounds like it’s a fairly rich dude that had a second home in Portland and recently donated a few million to Fresno State, where he and his wife went to school..

I still think he was acting stupidly, this what the bigger issue is how easily a bunch of randos like us and people on Reddit can pick apart his personal life (health, wealth, attitude) thanks to social media.

A reminder to stay calm.

I will get a Reddit thread written about me yelling for my dog when he disappears in the park. I will become known as a “dogabuser” 😅

Well, something is wrong with this dude, unless he just started road riding in retirement. If he pulled that s**t in most places I've ridden for what I can see in that video, he'd be long gone. But, hey, could be some entitled rich kid getting old in Park City, which is full of that type, and he picked the wrong sport. Must be a real charm on the slopes if you skied by him within twenty feet.
