Do you think that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar ask the same question when they're thinking about having another kid? No sir, they just get the job done.

If you've got the storage space and the cash, do it. Life's too short.

I think I did some math and I spent less on my bike than some coworkers spend on beer in a year. I dont really drink so that's my rationale.

My favorite way to justify the ridiculous amount of money I have spent on bicycles is to compare it to other hobbies. A new motorcycle can easily cost $20,000. A classic car or boat can cost way more. As others have already said, if it is in the budget, go for it.

When in the shop, when we sold a Moots, we always said, "you won't need a new bike...you may want one, but you won't need one."

There are no reasons, other than marital ones (and those can often be overcome by the use of the words "it's safer" or by the puppy dog pout look), not to buy a new bike.
Life is way too short. Bob Welch, the former A's/Dodgers pitcher and one of the nicest guys you would have had the pleasure to meet, just dropped dead of a heart attack at 58. When that happens to someone you know and in your age ballpark, it makes you notice.

If you've got the money and you want it, get it. There are many dumber things to blow money on. Not that you asked, but I never want more than one "nice" bike. My 14 yr old trainer bike doesn't count. I like having one really nice bike, keeping it tuned up, and generally not fussing over it too much. I have too many other interests I'd rather spend extra $$ on rather than having another bike that does the same thing as my other bike.
Wheels? That's another story. I'm in the process of getting down to 2 pair. I shudder to think the money I've blown on wheels. |

I own more bikes than any sane person should, and I'm sure others here do as well. You'll be in good company. -Jeff N.

Doing your part for the economy. You are a true patriot. I thank you. Just make gosh darn sure you post a picture of the thing.

So my issue is that I do one so that I can do more of the other.

Pics will come. I need to finish piecing it together. The analogy of how much your buddies spend on alcohol a year vs buying a bike was key!
