Boras on the way

I bought mine from Starbike, 1,475 euros, but only if I used PayPal. PayPal screwed me a bit with an exchange rate that favored them, 1 Euro=$1.08 vs the going rate of $1.03 at the time of purchase. Still $1,600 including shipping isn't a bad price. Seems like paying duty is a crapshoot, so we'll see.

I bought the 45s.

yea, DHL delivered mine and messaged me to pay the duties before they would deliver them. Still got em in 4 days though.

I purchased mine via Chain Reaction, as they indicated they would cover any duty charges incurred.

12,496 miles! (I currently "only" have 2 road bikes, and the Bishop/Boras get heavy, almost daily rotation.) I REALLY enjoy these wheels. They are as perfect today as day #1. Thinking about maintenance...I'll start a new thread.

One odd thing for me is how I get updates on the the shipment's progress. I'm used to received periodic text messages from UPS or FedEx as a shipment moves through their systems. With German DHL, I have to request updates via email, status updates don't come automatically.

They did come with wheel bags, skewers, tubeless valves and red brake pads.

With PayPal you have to make sure you don’t select their currency exchange service (where they give you a quote on how much USD it’ll will cost to send a payment over in the non-USD amount) - its a total ripoff and basically adds another 5-6% on top of the actual currency conversion.

Always pay in the foreign currency and allow you card issuer to do the conversion - some cards are better than others with the conversion fee but I’ve never seen more than 1-2% on top of the actual conversion rate.

Hope that Campy will update their Bora WTO disc lineup soon to more modern dimensions. Everything about the wheels are great except 19mm ID is a bit outdated and seems to be a carryover / mold efficiency with the rim brake rims. The 21mm ID of the newer Shamals would a welcome update.

cool thanks, I hope they go on sale again! Are all the clincher versions the same? meaning is there a 2 way fit version and a regular clincher version as in years past?

No sales tax or duties on either sets, but these things tend to be sporadic from what I hear. Maybe I just got lucky.

On the topic of Bora’s I’ll ask the for folks opinions, but what are the thoughts on the “best” rim depth for overall use? I’ve decided I’m going to order a pair over the winter for the Love #3 that has been on the workstand for far too long in the basement. Personally I really like the look of the 35s but what are folks thoughts? 45s? I’m just a recreational rider 200lbs, no longer race but enjoy fast group rides. I generally ride on good roads but some around here are crap too. I buy my gear to last and to keep a long time. I also expect I’ll be going the tubular route too for these. Thoughts?

Bora Ultra 35 tubs = best wheels I have ever owned.

This includes Enve, Mavic, and a bunch of hand builts with good parts.

All time favorite wheels are all Campy/Fulcrum.
- Bora Ultra 35 tubs - carbon
- Fulcrum Zero Racing clincher - alloy

I've also got some Luxe built Kinlin box section tubs laced to Royce hubs that will literally roll forever and are just beyond smooth.

But the Boras are great at everything, super light, no issue in crosswinds.
