UPS has a service called "Ground Saver" (as I recall), generally their cheapest. UPS delivers the package to the local post office and USPS does the final delivery. The labels carry both a UPS and a USPS tracking code. Depending on which code you use, it can appear that your package is either "delivered" (to your post office) or "not yet in system" (if USPS hasn't yet scanned it).

As they say, patience is a virtue.

Would life be better if they took away package tracking? Just go back to the old mystery system and enjoy the surprises.

I like the fact that USPS requires tracking now. Just before that started, I had a couple packages from a bike industry stalwart go "missing" that I'm pretty sure were never sent. Finally had to reverse charges.
