Moots CRD

Funny…first thing I noticed was that it seemed to have less TT slope than usual for a Moots. Moots is usually an egregious offender on this count, which is why I’d never own one.

But, yeah, that stem. Sheesh.

The stack is a bit high compared to other "performace bikes" but the same as on the Vamoots Disc RSL.
CRD: Stack/Reach = 569/580 (size 54)
Vamoots Disc RSL = 569/581

But that stem and the look at the front end....sheesh...it gives me shudders. damn, it is UGLY!

When I saw the sticker price of $15.8K, I thought that perhaps the D in CRD stood for Ducati. Then I checked and noted that a Ducati Monster stickers for $300 less.

I am with you on this. Something just looks right about the color matched forks on the older Moots. I have never been a fan of black forks on Ti frames, which is why my upcoming Ti will have a color matched fork!

Man, Moots just doesn't excite. I keep trying but they just don't do it for me. This particular bike looks like almost all the worst things rolled into one.

- Its a rare day when I think a Moots looks really nice. They usually look pretty squatty and chunky. I do think this one looks decent, based on the main driveside pic and the in use pics on the site.

- The integrated cabling system is...meh. Seems less than ideal.

- The stack height confusing. The site says stack height is measured with an external upper cup. Stack doesnt measure the height to the top of the headset. Stack height measures the height to the middle of the top of the head tube. Are they really measuring stack to the top of the top headset cup? If not, why mention that stack height is measured with the upper cup?

- That pricing is goofy. Cool if someone wants to pay it, but its just goofy to me.

I think it is the top headset cup and the stem that look out of place.
The Enve internal setup requires an upper headset cup that is the same dimension as the lower cup- 1.5.
And the stem doesn't look pretty on a titanium bike.
And they look even worse with a stack of spacers.

Funny that the same Enve stem looks great on an Enve Melee.

You're kidding, right? I guess you forgot the or something. Like all Moots frames and bikes, they will sell a ton of these.

Not much different than any of the premium, with dealer network, titanium frames 'out there'.

Moots is doing VERY well, sales wise.

Tough crowd but not uncommon to throw stones at the 'big boys', those who 'do one thing and do it well', that translates into huge success.....Oh well.

Firefly lists their bikes at $8000-$13,000+ A lot considering they don't really have dealers..'double margin'.

But go find a Firefly dealer so you can test ride one of their bikes...or No.22, or Bingham...wait a minute...guess not. oops.

Somebody mentioned Ducati..would ya buy a $13,000 Ducati online? Without test riding one or using a dealer?

What's going on over there? Just bringing ideas to the market and seeing what sticks?

I like it. I'm often put off by the looks of newer bikes, especially aero carbon. Granted this is not that but it looks good to me. I'd certainly throw a leg over it and ride it like I stole it. Sure, the price is nuts but you can spend the same on one from the big three that's made overseas. To each their own and all that.

Yeah there's something happening there. They also updated their Routt lineup last year (or end 2020) to have different geometry so they're clearly experimenting with something.

The CRD is a RCS with better geometry for me. The slight slope of the top tube looks better than the RCS. Overall I really dig the steampunk-ness of aero carbon, electronic shifting and old school titanium. It's how I set my own Moots up after all The headset reminds me of old nothreadsets so that works for me too. My worry on the technical side isn't so much the stem, but the handlebars. You can't even use the regular Enve Aero Road handlebars, you need to use their AR bars and those just look goofy. I don't like being limited to those.
