I recently sold my Mike Howard brazed Simonetti--the follow-on brand when they had to stop using the Medici name. (Mike thought it was likely Tange, but it was fillet brazed.)

They are lovely frames -- very Italian-esque as you would expect from folks who learned their chops with Masi USA. Frame should have a size stamp, measured C-t-T like Masi.

And that bike is immaculate, so you should buy it just based on that.

When I see something like this, that is obviously worth more than the asking price, I know I can get my money out of it. For a couple hundred bucks, I don't even care- that's the price of whatever enjoyment I get from it.

That's really sweet. It looks brand new. The wheels have no miles, or no braking anyway. It's old, but it still has STI shifters so it's nice to ride. What a time capsule. You have to buy it, assuming you can fit it in the stable somewhere.

Looks like the stem is already sold, unless it is a perfect fit. Take that $$$, buy a new stem, ditch the old tires and buy some 30s, and you're laughing.

Buy it, ride it for a year as-is and see if it works. At the worst, it's a wash.

Glad it isn't a 54.

Hell ya, that thing is sweet.

If you need to justify it to yourself you can probably sell the DA group for your purchase price, if you're good at cleaning/photography/ebay.

Medici's hold a place for me being a Southern CA brand, my first bike industry mentor rode a Medici pista around town, not to mention the odd and creepy hair bandit arrest of Mike Howard.

My sister raced on a Medici in the 80s. She had it updated about ten years ago to 130 mm and Ultegra 10 speed. It's still a daily rider. Eggshell with splattered paint and matching frame pump.
