Campagnolo 11-speed shifter/derailleur compatibility chart

Measured 10s & 11s rear derailleur pivot plate distances are the same. So this makes sense to what Oldpotatoe said.

Well, derailleur travel ratio depends on more than just the parallelogram plate length - it also depends on the distance from the knuckle/plate pivot to the cable anchor point*, and also on the distance from the knuckle/plate pivot to the cable barrel. But I just measured these on 10spd and 1st generation 11spd derailleurs, and these dimensions are the same, also (27mm from knuckle/pivot to cable anchor, 22.5mm from knuckle/pivot to cable barrel). Derailleur actuation will also depend on the parallelogram slant angle, but assuming this is the same also, I'd expect 10spd and 1st generation 11spd components to interchange well.

I also measured a 2nd generation 11spd derailleur. These are tougher to measure, because the parallelogram plates aren't straight, but the dimensions are a bit different from 1st generation 11spd. Near as I can tell, the parallogram plate length is 43.5mm, the knuckle/plate pivot to cable anchor is about 30mm, and the knuckle/plate pivot to cable barrel is about 27.5mm. The difference in ratios is going to depend on the angles, but based purely on the linear dimensions, I'd expect the 1st generation and 2nd generation to differ by about 5% - which could be close enough to mostly work, but not to work perfectly.

*Actuation ratio also depends on the distance from the knuckle/plate pivot to the cable anchor, which is the reason that actuation ratio can be varied with alternate cable routing. This was even made "official" with Shimano 9spd Dura-Ace derailleurs, which had two different cable routings depending on which shifters were being used.

I’ll add some more fodder: I had to slap together a trainer-only bike for a customer recently after his bikes were stolen, and before his new custom bike would be ready. I used pre-2015 Chorus 11s shifters and a much, much older 10s derailleur, 11s cassette and chain, Shimano 10s crank and front derailleur...the hodgepodge ran deep. The drivetrain worked.

Seems shifters last longer than rear ders and I used 11s rear ders(and 2009+ 10s) as replacement rear ders all the time in the trenches for older, pre 2009(11s) 10s ERGO..worked just fine and dandy.

Best part is that Ultrashift shifters, as in, 'ratcheting friction' lefts, 10s or 11s, work with just about any front der. Even 's' brand ones.

You got some sort of lucky. They are no more compatible than 8 spd 7400 and 8 spd Ultegra.

I'll add to this as well. Used 2012 Athena Powershift 11 spd triple shifters with a 2008 Campagnolo Racing T 10 spd rear mech and a 2013 Centaur 10 triple front. Shimano 11 speed 11-32 cassette and chain. Worked flawlessly.

You aren't adding to this - your 2012 shifters should work correctly, while a 2015 will not.

11s cassette spacing is the same campy or shimano. So it would have been the sane if it were 11s campag cassette.

Messaged a seller on eBay saying that a Potenza 11s RD is compatible with an Athena 11s shifter.

Can anyone back up his claim?

Athena derailleurs used the pre-2015 geometry and cable travel. Potenza derailleurs use the post-2015 geometry and cable travel. So they will be as compatible as any other pre-2015 derailleur and post-2015 shifter.

How does one differentiate between Athena pre/post-2015 deraileurs?

As far as I can tell from the campy catalogs there isnt much visual distinction

They are the same..have been since 2009 until Athena went away in 2018. No change in 2015.
