Wahoo Computer Update Anytime Soon?

Wahoo vs. Garmin is pretty much Mac vs. Windows.

I have used Wahoo computers for the last~6 years. 1st a Bolt and 2nd is a Roam.
They have always worked well and been easy to setup and download.

This fall, I cooked a Roam on the charger. Not sure what happened but the charger melted to the Roam. They replaced- But there was a gap where I needed a computer.
I took the bait and bought a Garmin 840 solar. Nice unit. Finally intefaces with phone.
I have to say- I like some things about the Garmin, but I much prefer the Wahoo Roam.
On Garmin, you can't name the screens. On the map screen, you can only elect 2 other variables to see. Plus- The Garmin is pretty inaccurate in terms of calculating elevation.
So for now- I am back on Wahoo.

But, I think Garmin does have some even bigger options. As well as the Karoo, which I've never used.

As others have said I also prefer the Wahoo. I bought a new Roam V2 on the Black Friday sale at Amazon last year.

Can't find any faults at all with the features or the use.
The Summit Freeride Climb feature is really nice . The software & the unit itself is super intuitive & I never have to think about it or worry I may push the wrong button etc.

The issue with the Karoo is battery life. If you do anything lasting >6hours, and want it to navigate and sync with a power meter, varia, etc, you'll need an auxiliary battery pack.

Probably a non-issue for most, but if you do long gravel events or similar, it's worth considering.

Wahoo is a Cateye computer with navigation, which is a good thing.

My V1 Bolt, 2018 is still good for 10 hours.

I'll try a Garmin again when they offer a Stormscope screen.

Agreed, it is certainly limiting for some to many riders especially if you ride daily. I’ve not had it die on me which shows how long I ride these days! I didn’t want to ask for too much though

Wahoo went thru some serious financial issues so might be a bit behind on development stuff.

This exactly. I don’t use the navigation at all but I like that it’s GPS based and can save rides to Strava. This is all I want. I configure the screen to show speed, distance, time and clock. that’s perfect for me.

I do wish a newer version had smaller bezels, as mentioned above. I don’t want a bigger unit but a bigger screen would be welcome.

I have a V1 Roam and am happy with it, however it is my first bike computer, so I have no experience with anything else.

Roam v1 vs v2

Hardware:
Better GPS chipset
64 color display (vs 16 on v1)
More onboard storage (more maps)
USB-C port

Software:
Summit segments (real-time hill climb info)
Better routing (especially re-route/return-to-route)

So, more of an evolution than a revolutionary change. And the Roam v2 and Bolt v2 are effectively on-par feature-wise, just different size screens. The Roam v2 has additional rows of LEDs to signal count-down to turns, but I think that's about it.

I probably just need to get the Roam V2 as I have the Bolt V2 and like it, just wish it was a bit bigger.. but was said earlier, I don't want to buy something and then the next week they announce a totally new, whiz-bang model..

I love the Wahoo Element Roam but just bought a Garmin 540 because my friends map their routes on Garmin, and I couldn't figure out how to load those routes into the Wahoo or into ridewithgps. How can you transfer a proposed route from Garmin to Wahoo?

I don't know what file type Garmin writes to though, so..

**looks like maybe Garmin is a very closed ecosystem and this isn't easily done as above?
