The Cure's new album, Songs of a Lost World, is so good.

My neo-soul/funk cover band has been working on this tune, so of course now it's totally stuck in my head!

George Benson, "Give Me The Night"

We've also been referencing these two versions of that same tune:

The Letter

1970. Back when you could be a young, crazy, drug-addled, composer, and musician, all at once. Joe Cocker. Looks like Leon Russell on the keyboard.

[I Just Wanna] Celebrate

Around the same time period. Back when your drummer could be your lead singer, and just go wandering around stage pounding whatever he could find with a handful of drumsticks in his own impromptu jam with the other drummer (!) and the rest of the band.

Looking back on it now, maybe it was the drugs. Maybe it was the birth of rock and roll. Maybe it was Vietnam, civil rights - a time of upheaval in America. Surely some of it was the creative energy of youth, but every generation and genre can lay claim to that.

The clothes, the hair...

On a completely different axis of the multidimensional musical dimensions - Emmylou

Listening again tonight.

Wonderful.

I wish it were a single 49 min piece of music.

The Cure

I'm just an old guy that liked some of their hits.
I'm also someone who prefers a live performance video.
In this case I think my preference would be listening to the polished vinyl without the visual accompaniment.

Here is proof.
