Peter Gabriel covering David Bowie. Heroes. Peter doesn't run around like he did in yesteryear, but the man can interpret some song. And I love, love, love me some strings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSX9F6ETTDQ Patty Griffin covering Emmylou Harris. That's a very, very tough task. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax36vwZMEGg Emmylou Harris covering Neil Young. When I saw her perform this as an encore she introduced the song as being from "...that great Canadian philosopher, Neil Young." The band was completely or almost identical, with Kennedy and Rose on guitar/mandolin (I may have them backwards). Loves me some mandolin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed5gsXxDaxM Otis Taylor covering Jimi Hendrix. I saw him years ago, and it was a great, great, great show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NShOQnlNEw Richie Havens (1960s) covering Gary Wright (1980s). Love, love, love, the cello. Strings. Again. She looks like she's having a lot of fun. I saw him once, about 20 years ago. Very unique - he never picks, and his left hand is unique, as far as I know - he essentially capos everything. For an old guy like me, it was worth the price of admission just to hear him perform "Freedom". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ianfkj6Odhg Pearl Jam covering the Who. As an old guy, I find it interesting how the audience didn't seem to recognize the piano intro until the very end. Did I mention that I love strings? Even "back in the day", I always thought that they were the real drivers to this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAeKLnbj2I8 Brian Eno covering Vivaldi - Fullness of Wind. Love this CD. Quote:

I'm looking forward to your feedback, as well as the musical background (listening, playing), you have to put it in context.

tbh I find myself more engaged by King Crimson's cover of "Heroes" from their 2016 tour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JywkrIiXW8 ...but boy-howdee is that tune a fertile playground for any band looking to frolic! A couple other out-of-left-field covers that always wind up on my personal playlist: - Bill Frisell's cover of Madonna's "Live To Tell" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCO1gTmZQIM - Fred Frith's cover of Martha & The Vandellas' "Dancing In The Street" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZfudPXZmgc And just this morning I heard Metallica's cover of Elton John's "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" and...well, it didn't suck. Really. |
