Deep Purple

25 anniversary remastered CD of Machine Head. "I'm a Blind Man" with a 100 watt tube amp is unbelievable.

Yeah, I think that's a fair summation. Never thought of SD as more than 'workmanlike' myself.

As to the genre, Bad Religion are high in the pantheon, and now that they've released a Christmas album I'm scratching my head and wondering 'why?'

JB, just about anything through a 100W tube amp would kick ass. Run "Aces High" from Maiden, "Riding on the Wind" from Priest or "Du Hast" from Rammstein (or the like) through it, and the neighbors would call the police.

Machine Head is a classic. Ian Gillan is in top form on that record.

I know it is a side track. But what more do you get when sound is run through a tubular amp...instead of digital. Is it warmer, clearer, measurable, etc,

Thanks

I don't know the "tech," just know what I like. I don't have one anymore, but have listened to heavy music played through one, and the sound, to me is amazing. I like music played very loud, and music from bands like Deep Purple (especially in the Machine Head/Burn era) and the bands/songs I mentioned sound great, very loud through a tube amp. Warmer, I guess you could say that. You can play a song much louder and it's still pretty clear. Jon Lord's organ/keyboards (Knocking at Your Back Door, Burn etc.) through one, very loud is quite a treat, imo.
