This is a very young group of talented kids who feed off of the fans. They played in empty stadiums & their efforts reflected that. They will be completely amped at the world cup. They are playing in a group that they have a good chance to advance out of.
Yup. Everyone has an opinion...

Too early to discuss? Spoilers? Do we need a World Cup thread?

That one terrible decision undid a whole game of solid box play from Zimmerman.

Undid it did, indeed.

<sigh> Why be so rash? He was facing away from the goal. Aaargh.

A solid b+ Team effort gone to waste.

Like you said a good game for Zimmerman until then.

Pulisic is trying to do too much on his own.

My kid’s U10 ten makes more adjustments at halftime.

The stat you needed to see regardless of the time of possession, challenges, touches etc

One
Shot
On
Goal

You can talk to a cute girl, flirty conversation, buy drinks etc and some dood comes in at closing and takes her home, you lost that one.

That's rather a boorish way of viewing the vicissitudes of football.

And the crassness aside, why even spectate if one chooses to understand football through such a cynical perspective.

The USMNT failed to adjust to the direct, route 1 Sam Allardyce football that Wales brought out in the second half. Wales brought on Keiffer Moore at halftime & GB should have adjusted immediately (back 3 against the 4-4-2?). Sitting back was not the right answer.

Wales game plan was pretty simple. Sit back & hack the crap out of Pulisic. (the latter part was pretty cynical).

All things considered it was an OK result:
- Tim Ream & Tyler Adams were massive. So was Matt Turner.
- Dest again fails to impress. Yedlin (!) wasn't a great improvement but more solid.
- The kids did pretty well. Not overawed and I think they will grow into the tournament.

next round should be interesting.
- England is impressive (my pick to win it all) but struggles against the US.
- Wales cannot play a back 5 against Iran. They need a win. Iran will sit back and counter. Wales did not impress AT ALL. I think it will be a tie (0-0).

Thanks for the summary.

I guess Wales + Route 1 shouldn’t be a surprise, as they’ve pulled off bigger achievements in the past (e.g. vs overrated Belgium in 2016). A better manager would have been more proactive.

Not having watched it live, i didn’t quite get how bad the planning was until someone pointed out the futility of bringing on Jordan Morris to chase a goal.

But on the bright side, an open play goal, and a Weah finally scored at the World Cup finals.

Worst loss since the Falklands.

While Argentina played poorly, both of those shots from the Saudi players were epic.

Absolutely fantastic goals from them. Argentina's keeper didn't have a chance on the first, and even got a hand on the second.

Well played for those forwards.
