Sy Oliver and his orchestra have some incredible stuff. Spotify (as it seems to do from time to time) wiped a whole album of theirs from the system a while back and I was distraught.

Pretty remarkable that they were singing about the same person who just passed yesterday!

I've had this gem stuck in my head all week:

btw, if you're not a fan of quiet, delicate semi-Baroque filigree, and/or are simply impatient, fast-forward to the ~2:50 mark and prepare to lose your head.

Yup. This one came to mind here too. I was trying to remember any songs about the Queen, beyond this one and the Sex Pistols

All That Jazz from the Chicago soundtrack. My SO insists that I'm torturing her.

Big fan of strong female vocals! To name just a few:

Dolly Parton: Jolene. Soulful
Jewel: You Were Meant for Me. Impossible
Alison Krauss: I'll Fly Away. Sublime
Maura O'Connell: Follow On. WOW
Karen O: Maps. Simple Complexity

However, Tyler Childers Whitehouse Road has consumed me since YouTube fed it to me when I started work on Tuesday: Phew!

Chicago Transit Authority.
Local station played the live Carnegie Hall version when I was out riding last Friday, but I prefer the original studio version.

I find it a bit odd that Terry Kath was a favorite of Jimi Hendrix.

Well, I wasn't going to post this, but someone elsewhere mentioned that today is Bela Lugosi's birthday. And Halloween is coming up.

So - Bauhaus, performing a live version of their classic Bela Lugosi's Dead, with Peter Murphy as some sort of upside down bat throughout the entire song.

Released in 1979? Wow, how time flies.

Lowest common denominator, as I have two kids that only want to listen to garbage on the radio, BUT

Steve Lacy's 'Bad Habit' is a pretty great song. I think he is cool in the underground/alt hip hop scenes, but made a radio friendly song and is seeing the benefits of doing so ($$$!). Hes a pretty good guitarist, too...

I can't stop singing it, as it was just playing in the car when I picked kids up from school.
